Summer Skiing in Tignes is carried out around the Grand Motte Glacier area of Tignes. Although the area is on a far smaller scale than that used in the winter season race teams from around the world use the area to train. You are best advised to get up early whilst it is still cold; generally initial conditions are harder but as the day warms up this gradually softens until eventually the lower conditions become slushy.

Access to the Grand Motte Glacier is from the Val Claret Area of Tignes however there is a free bus that runs from the Lavachet and Le Lac areas making skiing easily accessible form these areas as well.

The Grande Motte glacier ski area will be open every day from 7h15 to 13h00 from 18 June until 04 September 2011 .

In the afternoon ski lifts are open for mountain biking if you're interested in this activity.

Tignes in the summer gets our thumbs up, enough open to keep us happy (loop !) & plenty of activities.
Weather has been better than we were expecting, plenty of biking & walking done !
